Marina Cunquero
Scientific biography
Marina Cunquero is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institut de la Vision in Paris. With over nine years of experience in advanced light microscopy, she specializes in optical imaging and retinal neuroscience. Her research aims to unravel the relationship between retinal and cerebral degeneration in neurodegenerative diseases such as multiple sclerosis. She uses high-resolution in vivo imaging with adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) to detect cellular abnormalities in the retinal neurovascular network of patients. To enhance image interpretation, she is developing a custom microscopy system that replicates AOSLO contrast in fixed tissue. This strategy would enable direct correlation between in vivo patient imaging and postmortem histology. Ultimately, her work seeks to determine whether retinal changes mirror, precede or follow cerebral degeneration, supporting the development of retinal biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring of neurodegenerative disorders.
