DONATE MAINS

The European Vision Institute organized "The Best Photo in Vision Research and Ophthalmology" picture competition, sponsored by Heidelberg Engineering, from August 1st to September 30th 2017.

The first prize has been awarded to Hanen Khabou, PhD student at Institut de la Vision!

Hanen Khabou develops viral vectors for retinal gene therapy.
She works in the team "Gene therapies and animal models for neurodegenerative diseases", led by Deniz Dalkara.

Her picture is called Rainbow Fovea.
It shows the cone photoreceptors of the fovea, which is located in the central part of the retina. Cones are required for daylight, color vision and are also essential for high acuity vision, needed to perform tasks that require precision such as reading, or recognizing faces. The image was acquired with a confocal microscope from a non-human primate retinal flatmount.
